1. Sales Tax

Public discussions on the introduction of sales tax has been taking place from time to time since it was floated a few years ago. The Consultation Document “A Broader-based Tax System for Hong Kong?”* issued recently by the Advisory Committee on New Broad-based Taxes has started a new round of debate on sales tax. In this connection, I would like to know the views of fellow Engineers.

2. Legislation to stop the title of “Engineer” being abused

Amid growing concerns that the title of “Engineer” is being abused by non-qualified persons. I initiated the proposal of legislating for the use of the title “Engineer” and commenced consultation amongst fellow Engineers. Your views as a member of the engineering professionals will be essential to a rational debate on the item.
